What can I say about this game, except that it's one of my new favorite games of all time. Yes. Not quite my favorite, but it's up there. Borderlands is awesome blended with fanciness that has a hint of fresh mango. I'll quit speaking in tongues and tell you why this game rocks.
Borderlands is set on a dry planet called Pandora, full of backwards hillbillies, crazed bandits, local fauna of all shapes and sizes... and they all want to kill you. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to seek out the legendary "vault" that is supposedly hidden somewhere on the planet, and filled with riches galore. Fame, wealth and women await you, all you need to do is shoot a lot of stuff with an unnecessary but oh-so satisfyingly massive array of guns.
They have truly successfully blended the genres of FPS and RPG here. There's a little something to please fans of each. You get 4 character classes to choose with, each with their own special power and a set of perks to upgrade along with it. The loot is plentiful, and the world is big. Guns range from pathetic bullet-farting throw-aways to Acid-shooting death beams. Have you ever wanted to shoot bullets that curve like in
wanted and have them explode on impact? There's a gun for that. Ever wanted to decimate 6 bandits with one shot of super charged energy? There's a gun for that. Heck, if you're playing as the berserker class, you can PUNCH PEOPLE WITH LIGHTNING AND MAKE THEIR SKULLS IMPLODE. I'm not sure I can better describe how awesome this game is so I'll say it again:
YOU CAN
PUNCH PEOPLE WITH LIGHTNING AND MAKE THEIR SKULLS IMPLODE.The world is fairly huge, yest it's nice and easy to get around due to vehicles and the fast-travel system you unlock a little ways into the game. The graphics are stylized and awesome, and go along with the huge place. Although a lot of areas seem to fit the "lifeless wasteland" motif a little too easily, the detail really shines through, you won't get tired of looking at it.
Multiplayer. It is win. But play it with friends since there is no loot sharing system. Split-screen is also quite awesome, but sadly at the moment you can't take split-screen online, which is one of few gripes I have. There are plenty of quests to sate completionists, and the game doesn't end when you beat it once. You can start a new playthrough with everything getting much tougher and dropping better loot. (A "hard mode" if you will)
Borderlands. Get it. I recommend it highly.

If I ever had kids, it'd be because I need some cheap labor to do the laundry. I don't need a miniature best friend. ~jesidangerously

Were it a choice between saving the whole of humanity or having a slightly stale cookie with a goblin, I would be forced to choose the latter.
